Why Supervision?
Counselling exposes counsellors, students and other health professionals to situations that impose a great demand upon our emotional and professional being. These demands can lead to a health professional inadvertently becoming enmeshed and over involved in a clients difficulties which can lead to the development of an ineffective practice.
Supervision is a formal arrangement, so that health professionals are able to discuss their work regularly with someone who is a trained supervisor. The aim is to work collaboratively to ensure and develop the efficiency of the professional/client relationship.
The quality of the relationship between the supervisor and the supervisee is important, although a complex one. The approaches to supervision are varied. It is vital that the approach works for the supervisee. This important aspect determines the effectiveness and success of the supervision and the relationship between the two parties.

Professional Supervision is a process that maintains and monitors standards of counselling and is a method of consultancy that widens the horizons of an experienced practitioner.
Supervision is a profssional service that supports the counsellor or health professioal to self-reflect, increase self-awareness, facilitate and encourage self-learning opportunities that result in ongoing progeessionalism.
Supervision involves maintaining a relationship as well as giving attention to the skills and process of the Supervisee. All counsellors and those involved in the area of people helping, regardless of experience, need supervision. It assists the counsellor with the development of skills, meaning, personal health and professional growth.
